Why Switch To Clean Beauty?
The beauty products we use, such as shampoo, lotions, makeup, & other hygienic products are loaded with toxins and chemicals. With just a few minutes of research, you’ll find that most of the products on your bathroom counter do more harm than good.
There are known toxins & chemicals in makeup & other beauty products that cause cancer & birth defects, among other illnesses. That is why I’ve decided to make several switches to clean beauty to lessen my exposure to these harmful ingredients and you can too!
How to Switch To Clean Beauty?
I took an inventory of all of the products I use daily and/or weekly. Then, I did some research on how to switch those products to clean beauty products. Some were simple recipes, while others I had to find an alternative product that was also affordable.
Some products are more difficult than others to switch out due to costs or availability. For example, I haven’t found a great alternative for conditioner that is non toxic, so I just try to limit the amount of times I wash my hair (find out more about how I use Hair Training to only wash my hair twice a month!).
I am not 100% clean beauty yet, but I have found several areas that were easy to switch to cleaner beauty products. I’ll share the options below in hopes that you can start making the switch to clean beauty too!
1. Natural Deodorant
Store bought deodorants and antiperspirants are loaded with harmful ingredients and even metals! As somebody that sweats more than the average female & deals with odor, I was worried about finding a clean beauty alternative for my deodorant. Luckily, I found several options that were clean & effective!
Best Alternative All-Natural Deodorant
I’ve found that farragio Solid Deodorant works great! I love that it is made of simple and all-natural ingredients. It has a great citrusy fresh smell & goes on easily!
DIY Deodorant Recipes
If you prefer DIY recipes for your clean beauty, then you can also make deodorant out of some common ingredients.
Hopewell Homestead makes a “Pit Paste” out of baking soda and coconut oil. These two ingredients are a powerhouse when eliminating odors.
You can also fill a spray bottle up with Milk of Magnesia & essential oils to eliminate underarm odors or rub diaper rash cream under your arms. (Here is my favorite brand of Diaper Rash Cream that I use for deodorant & sunscreen).
There are so many options when it comes to deodorant, so don’t feel stuck using the store-bought brands!
Or go all the way & find out more in my How to Stop Using Deodorant blog post.
2. Moisturize Towards No More Makeup
Our skincare routine is another big factor when it comes to clean beauty. There are parabens, fragrance, & other toxins in most store bought moisturizers that can actually be harmful for your skin.
We use these harmful ingredients in hopes to make our skin look better, when in reality we’re moving further away from natural beauty. Our skin doesn’t stand a chance against these ingredients, so we have to mask ourselves with makeups and more serums to feel better.
Best Brand For All-Natural Moisturizer
When I want to splurge and treat myself, I use farragio Ultimate Face Moisturizer. Again, farragio always uses all-natural ingredients that make your skin feel nourished and luxurious.
farragio used to carry a tinted moisturizer which I replaced my foundation with. Now that they no longer carry it, I plan to create my own batch by adding cocoa powder to the next jar of moisturizer that I buy.
Simple DIY Moisturizer Alternatives For Clean Beauty
If you aren’t ready to spend money on moisturizer, you can keep it simple. I’ve used several different oils to moisturize my face that work great. If I want to keep things simple, I like to use Fractionated Coconut oil, avocado oil, or olive oil to moisturize after I wash my face. (Check out my body butter with tallow & shea butter recipe!)
When you have a clean beauty product to moisturize with, your skin will start to look radiant and clear. You won’t have as much need for makeup.
I’ve found that I no longer like to wear foundation because my natural skin looks so bright and nourished from the switch to clean a beauty moisturizer routine.
3. Clean Beauty Toothpaste
Another product that we use multiple times a day that can contribute to toxins is toothpaste. There are so many ingredients in toothpaste that aren’t good for us. Find out more on my All-Natural Toothpaste blog post.
There are plenty of natural toothpaste products out there to choose from, but I find the best option is to make your own.
You can go as simple or as complex as you want with your toothpaste ingredients. Even a simple recipe like baking soda and coconut oil will leave your teeth feeling polished and fresh.
I personally make a DIY Remineralizing All-Natural Toothpaste recipe that keeps my teeth clean, white, and healthy. These recipes won’t break the bank and they’re a great alternative to the store bought brands.
4. Perfume For Cleaner Beauty
Perfumes or any beauty products with fragrances can negatively impact your health. Although they smell great, they are not healthy for our respiratory system or hormones.
Essential oils are a great alternative to use when it comes to perfume and body sprays. The options are endless when combining your favorite essential oils.
I make a quick and easy DIY Perfume With Essential Oils recipe. I show two options: Lemon Coconut or Mint Mojito fragrances.
Ditch the expensive and unhealthy fragrances and opt for a more natural and healthy option!
5. Clean Beauty For Hair Care
I am a dry shampoo addict! I used to use Dove dry shampoo because it smelled amazing and was very affordable. It kept me from needing to wash my hair as often.
I realized the ingredients and fragrance in the store bought dry shampoo wasn’t good for my health. I wanted a clean beauty option when it came to my hair as well.
All-Natural Dry Shampoo
I started off by using farragio Dry Shampoo Powder. This small bottle of dry shampoo lasted me an eternity! It had a nice mild smell & made my hair look healthy & clean!
After the bottle ran out, I looked at the ingredients and realized the main ingredient was easy to purchase and use as a simple dry shampoo by itself. I now use arrowroot powder on my roots when I need a little hair pick-me-up.

Hair Training
The use of all-natural dry shampoo has also helped me lessen my use of toxic shampoo & conditioner. I haven’t made a switch to a better option for my shampoo or conditioner because it seems like the natural options are expensive and leave hair feeling a little blah.
Because of this, I made it a point to start Hair Training. I’ve been able to train my hair to look healthy and clean for longer periods of time. I now wash my hair twice a month! I may not have eliminated the toxins from shampoo, but at least I’m using it less often now.
Bonus Tip: Embrace Your Natural Beauty
Clean beauty is a road to natural beauty. When you eliminate the toxins and chemicals from your beauty routine, your hair and skin will thank you for it.
You’ll also FEEL BETTER when your body isn’t working to fight off chemicals! You’ll be happy in your own skin and start to appreciate your natural looks.
Never forget that you are beautiful just the way you are and don’t need to mask your face with harsh products. I pray that you start to see your natural beauty as you step away from harmful beauty products towards clean beauty.
