What To Use

This recipe only calls for two ingredients: a carrier oil & essential oils.  The ingredients are really flexible to help you choose what works best for you.

Carrier Oil

You can choose any carrier oil that is in liquid form.  Either use one carrier oil or mix multiple together.  Some of my favorite oils to use are fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil.

All of these oils are super moisturizing due to the essential fatty acids.   Here’s a list so you can choose the best carrier oil for you:

Essential Oils

Essential oils are the best for customizing recipes.  Use any of the favorite essential oils that you enjoy.  You can use a combination of essential oils or just use one.

Make sure to choose organic pure essential oils that are 100% therapeutic grade.  I really like using Edens Garden essential oils because they are pure, yet not too expensive.

Common Essential Oils For Bath Oil

  • Lavender essential oil: great for soothing pain & calming mind
  • Sweet orange essential oil: a pick-me-up for peace & concentration
  • Rosemary oil: relieves pain & stress
  • Sage: eliminates toxins & helps stretch marks
  • Peppermint: soothes itching & dryness
  • Thyme oil: anti-fungal & helps clean skin
  • Calendula oil: heals wounds & dry skin
  • Rose essential oil: clears acne & anti-inflammatory
  • Jasmine oil: calms dry, itchy skin
  • Tea tree oil: treats fungus & soothes skin
  • Eucalyptus oil: helps seal moisture & relieves congestion
  • Cedarwood: good for acne & eczema

Using an essential oil blend is a great option too.  Just make sure it’s not going to irritate your skin.

Herb-Infused Bath Oil

Another option is to infuse your oil with herbs.  If you choose to do this, you can use a carrier oil & then choose to use the herbs listed above in the essential oil section.  Place your herbs in the oil & allow to infuse for 2-4 days before using.

Recipe

This recipe couldn’t be easier.  You just choose a carrier oil & essential oil based on your needs.  Then, mix it together in a bottle!

Tools

Ingredients

  • 4oz of carrier oil (about ½ cup)
  • 40-50 drops of essential oils
Pillar Post DIY Non Toxic Body Care

Directions

Combine your carrier oil of choice & essential oils into the glass dropper bottle.  You need to give it a good shake each time you use it so the oils mix together.

You’ll use 1 tablespoon of your relaxing bath oil in the bathtub.  The best way to use is to make sure you’re using warm water (or hot water) to help the oil melt into the water.

Now all you have to do is enjoy your soothing bath oil!

Tips

  • Always use a glass container for this recipe because the oils can break down plastic.
  • If you’re just looking for moisture, you can skip the essential oils.
  • Use any essential oil blends that you enjoy.  It’s best to avoid citrus oils that are phototoxic like grapefruit, lime, bergamot, & lemon oil. They make your skin sensitive to sunlight.  Use sweet orange oil if you want a citrus smell.
  • You can use any carrier oil that you have on hand.  You can also mix a few carrier oils together for added benefits.
  • Be careful when you step in and out of the tub, as the floors might be slippery from the oil.
  • If you’re pregnant or nursing, use half the amount of essential oils in your bottle.  Make sure to only use essential oils that are safe for pregnancy.
  • For kids, also use half the amount of essential oil & make sure you use kid-friendly essential oils.
  • To avoid skin irritation, start with 1-2 teaspoons in your bathtub first.
