What Is In Homemade Hummus?
I never really knew what was in homemade hummus until my aunt made it as a party dip one time. It was so delicious and inspired me to find out how to make it myself!
Hummus is traditionally made from chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans). It is blended together with tahini, lemon juice, garlic, & salt. These simple ingredients combined make a delicious dip or spread.
Tahini is the secret ingredient. It is a creamy paste that helps bind the hummus together and gives it a wonderful nutty flavor. If you don’t have tahini on hand, you can make your own from sesame seeds & olive oil.

Is Homemade Hummus Healthy?
Since hummus is made from beans and healthy oils, it is a great source of protein and fiber. There are also healthy fats in hummus that are nourishing for your body.
Overall, hummus has wholesome ingredients that are healthy for you. Plus, when you make it at home, you leave out the unnecessary preservatives that are in the store bought brands.
What Can You Do With Hummus?
Homemade hummus is a wholesome snack that can be paired with veggies or pita chips. It can also be used as a spread on veggie or chicken wraps.
The most traditional way to eat hummus is with pita bread as a side dish. Many people will dip pepper slices, cucumbers, carrots, or any other veggie in hummus as a dip.
You can also use hummus as a spread on sandwiches, burgers, or flatbreads. The options are endless when it comes to using hummus to enhance your meal or snack!
